(JULY 14) Not only has it been a
task to find opponents for White Rock’s undefeated heavyweight
sensation Moultrie “Mooch”
Witherspoon, it has equally been hard to find sparring
partners.
Nevertheless, Billy Stanick
is bringing top notch heavyweights from all over the country to
spar several times a month with Witherspoon. Recently, Stanick
talked with
Jerry "Ace" Miller,
Trainer and Director of Golden Gloves Boxing of Knoxville,
scheduled some sparring matches with Miller’s own heavyweight
Alonzo "Big Zo"
Butler who was in White Rock this past weekend sparring
with Mooch.
The Big Zo’s professional record
currently stands at 17-0-1 (14KO’s) Butler has many
notorious sparring partners such as
Calvin
Brock; who has an unblemished fight record of 26-0-0
(21KO’s), and former heavyweight champion
Oliver McCall. September 1994, in London McCall went up
against (at that time) the undefeated WBC Heavyweight
Lennox Lewis.
In what was scheduled for 12 rounds, McCall called it an early
night with a TKO win over Lewis in the 2nd round. These two
heavyweights came back for a rematch in February 1997 in Las
Vegas, this time the WBC Heavyweight Title was vacant and the
tables turned in favor of Lewis who won this bout in round 5
with a TKO and again took reign over the WBC Heavyweight Title.
The next sparring match for Moultrie is scheduled for Saturday
July 23rd at WRB.
If you are a WRB sponsor you have an open invitation to all
sparring matches. Please visit our website often for up-to-date
information.
