Travis Simms
off Radisson Card Will Fight Sergio Martinez For WBC World Title?
By Andrew Stokes
(JAN 8) Palmetto Boxing is proud to
announce their second, "Fight Night at the Radisson" Boxing Show on
Saturday, January 10th, 2009 at The Radisson Hotel and Conference
Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Headlining the fight card at the
prestigious 2008 President's Award Recipient Hotel will be former
two-time WBA Light Middleweight Champion "Tremendous" Travis Simms.
In a rare opportunity to see a world champion in such an intimate
ballroom setting, Travis Simms (26-1) is looking to catapult back
into title contention. Simms has fought on some of the biggest
stages in boxing including retaining his title at Madison Square
Garden in New York City. After a two-year layoff, Simms showed no
ring rust by dethroning Jose Antonio Rivera to regain his WBA World
title on Showtime in 2007. Other notable wins on his resume include
Alejandro "Terra" Garcia and Bronco McKart. Earlier this summer
Simms had no problems taking out Mike McFail in a move up to the
middleweight division at the inaugural "Fight Night at the
Radisson".
In the Co feature, "The Irish Hitman" Shane Benfield (17-2) returns
to his home state to take on another South Carolina fighter Mickey
Stackhouse. Benfield is 12-0 when fighting in South Carolina and he
is returning home to fight for the first time since January of 2007.
Also on the card is undefeated Light Heavyweight prospect Chris
Fitzpatrick, super middleweight Mike "Showtime" Raynor, , female
sensation Angel Gladney, South Carolina Heavyweight Joseph Rabotte
Light Heavyweight Robert "The Dream" Dunton ,and South Carolina
Super Featherweight Darryl Watson. |
