2019 South Carolina Golden Gloves State Championship and
Advancing Regional Tournament
(JAN 5, 2019) The 2019 South Carolina Golden Gloves State Championship
will take place on February 22nd and 23rd at the Spinning Jenny in Greer, South
Carolina.
This premier competition will feature the best male and female boxers in South
Carolina competing for the 2019 SC Golden Gloves State Championship Belt,
All-State Certificates signed by Governor Henry McMaster, and a chance to
represent SC at the Southern Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions. This USA
Boxing Sanctioned event will follow Olympic-style boxing rules.
In order to create fair, entertaining, and exciting matches, there will be three
levels of competition based on the boxer's prior experience: Beginner (0-2 prior
bouts), Novice (up to 10 prior bouts), and Open (11 or more prior bouts). In
addition to prior experience, boxers will be matched based on age. The Junior
Golden Gloves titles will be contested between 15 and 16 year olds, the Youth
Golden Gloves will be fought between 17 and 18 year olds, and the Senior/Elite
Golden Gloves includes boxers between ages of 19 and 40 years old.
Each Division will crown a champion, but only the Senior Open State Champions
will advance to represent the state of SC in the regional tournament of
champions, which will see SC's best boxers fighting other state champions, which
will see SC's best boxers fighting other state champions from Tennessee,
Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama. The winner of the regional tournament of
champions will advance to the Golden Gloves National Championship.
The Golden Gloves title is of the most prestigious awards an amateur boxer can
win, and great champions such as Sugar Ray Leonard, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Roy
Jones Jr., Thomas Hearns, Evander Holyfield, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and
Deontay Wilder have used Golden Gloves titles to launch their professional
boxing careers.
