As an amateur he won the Mike English Invitational, the Blue Diamond Invitational,  and the South Carolina Golden Gloves middleweight.

Coach James Gallmon training White Rock Boxer Mike Jacobs for South Carolina Golden Gloves. Alonzo Lumpkin will be hosting South Carolina Golden Gloves this year in Rock Hill South Carolina. Mike Jacobs is in the 100 Round Club at White Rock. To be a member of the White Rock Boxing 100 round club you have to have 100 rounds of good hard sparring.  He has had sparring with Daniel Dangerous Powell - Jr James JR Gantt Jr and many others.

(OCT 24, 2017)  On Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the Jamil Shrine Arena, with a night of Live Pro Boxing, at 206 Jamil Rd., Columbia, South Carolina 29210, Daniel DP Powell will be fighting on the card.    He is also tentatively looking to fight on the Christy Martin's Pink Promotions card that will be taking place on November 18th.  Full Story

As an Amateur,  James won The Mike English Invitational - The Blue Diamond Invitational and South Carolina Golden Gloves. James Gantt Jr. Fights out of White Rock Boxing Gym managed by Billy Stanick.
