Collazo took some time out of his busy schedule to visit
soldiers at Fort Jackson. Collazo got a chance to talk with
soldiers and thank them for the fine job they were doing
protecting our Country. Collazo also had the chance to shoot a
weapons qualification scenario with the M16 rifle. Collazo said
It was an experience that he would never forget.

Champion Boxer Luis Collazo has chosen Columbia South
Carolina and the Whiterock boxing gym as his place of
choice in preparation for his upcoming fight. Collazo
will be fighting for the #1 spot on the upcoming HBO PPV
card Jan. 19, 2008. The Don King promoted show
will also feature Roy Jones JR. vs. Tito Trinidad.
Collazo will be returning to the ring after an extended
layoff. Collazo broke his thumb in the third round of
one of the biggest fights of his career when he faced
off with Sugar Shane Mosley in February. Collazo says
this is the best he has ever felt while training for a
fight. Andrew Stokes, a long time friend of Collazo is
hosting the camp.

January 19, 2008, at the Madison Square Garden, in New York
City, New York, and promoted by Don King, and televised on HBO
PPV, welterweight Louie Collazo, 27-3-0 (13KO), will be
fighting Nelson Linares, 15-0-1 (8KO), in a 12-round bout.

Ombey, “Kay-Tell”, Mobley put on impressive performance in rout
to a questionable draw against hometown favorite Maurice
Winslow. Mobley dominated the first round with precision jabs
and fancy foot work that kept his foe off balance. In the second
Mobley put together a fierce three punch combination culminating
with a big right hand that sent Wilson crumbling to the floor.

Palmetto Boxing
held a fundraising auction at the past Fall Bawl 2 boxing event to
help raise funds for the Joshua L. Torrence Memorial Foundation.
Joshua from Lexington, South Carolina was an Untied States Marine
deployed to Iraq. Sadly, he lost his life while on patrol in March.
Because of their love of Joshua, and their gratitude of his service
and sacrifice, members of the White Knoll High School Community
started a campaign to raise $150,000 dollars..Full

lost a fight. Berry Butler has tasted defeat before, but he
never could have foreseen the raw deal he received in Germany
this past July 7th. Butler still feels good about his
performance against 19 year old Albanian poster boy, Haxhi
Krasniqi and he is no longer in awe or intimidated by the
spotlight after fighting in front of a sold out crowd of over
20,000. The fight took place in Cologne, Germany on the under
card of Wladimir Klitschko's dominating performance against

Palmetto Boxing would like to wish Randy Griffin good luck. The
number one ranked middleweight in the World will get his opportunity
to fight for the WBA Middleweight Title this Saturday in Germany as
the mandatory challenger for WBA Champion Felix Sturm. Randy has
spent several weeks training at the Whiterock Boxing Gym in the
past, while helping former WBA Junior Middleweight Champion, Travis
Simms, prepare for his successful title defense against Jose Rivera.
Promoter Andrew Stokes and Billy Stanick are good friends with Randy
and they wish him the best in his quest to become World Champion.
Moultrie Witherspoon came to Jamil Temple’s auditorium
on Friday night expecting to face journeyman Dan
Sheehan. Surprise ... Mooch, meet Jason Waller. In
a six-round bout against a man who stood toe-to-toe with
one-time heavyweight champ Shannon Briggs, Witherspoon
prevailed in a unanimous decision that was much more
difficult than the paper result.

Amateur boxers
Angel Gladey, De’Andre Robinson-Neal, Jeffrey Steen and
Daniel Locklear represented Whiterock Boxing, Palmetto
Boxing, and the State of South Carolina in the largest
amateur boxing contest in the world - The Ringside World
Championships. The tournament was held August 1-5, 2007
in Kansas City, Missouri. Six rings were set up to
accommodate 300 bouts a day for five days. Coach
Dominic Robinson-Neal accompanied the team as head
coach. The team
competed with over 1450 boxers from France, Ireland,
Japan, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Switzerland, Hawaii, Europe,
Canada and the U.S.

best shows ever held in the Columbia Metropolitan area. With a
standing room crowd of over 1,200 energized fans, nothing was

We are proud of Donna Biggers. She
stepped up to the plate and fought Kelsey Jeffers, the reigning
IFBA Featherweight Champion of the World for the IFBA
Featherweight Title. She lost a 10-round decision. Fought a
great female champion and we feel she has a lot to be proud of.
She worked out at White Rock Boxing Gym for a couple of weeks
with Dominic Robinson in preparation for this world title

wondering if he is tough enough to go the distance against a
deadly disease..On good nights, he hears prison sounds: fights,
profanity and lives slammed shut by iron doors. He can sleep
through that. On bad nights, he hears his thoughts: thoughts
about past gang involvement, a promising boxing career ruined by
carelessness and a disease he could have prevented, and thoughts
about dying from that disease in prison.

four-round super-welter weight bout at the Plex in
Charleston on March 29. The bout took place as the

to brush off the “ring rust” to take the win over Wes
Taylor at the Plex in Charleston on March 29. The
six-round heavyweight bout was the main event of the
night and started with Taylor landing big shots early,
but ended with Witherspoon getting a unanimous decision.
“I did 50 percent of what I should’ve done and went in
there after 10 months off,” said Witherspoon.

day as everyone got a chance to get wet, socialize, eat
chicken, and wash cars for a great cause. Funds raised

great success. Palmetto Boxing Academy hosted this
Olympic qualifying tournament on March 16-18. This

Whiterock Boxing attended
the Senior State Tournament in Eutawville South Carolina
hosted by FML Boxing and Dexter Ladsen . There were
twelve exciting bouts and a great crowd to boot. Danny
Powell and Brandon Storey from Whiterock trained by Mike
English were both victorious in there first amateur
competition. The hard work and great training by Coach
Mike English was evident as both fighters won in

(JAN 9) In what has to be considered
the comeback story of the year, Travis Simms reclaimed his WBA
Light Middleweight Title in "Tremendous" fashion on the
undercard of the Showtime televised Sam Peter/James Toney
Rematch. Giving the performance of his career and coming off a
two and a half year layoff, Simms looked like one of the best
fighters in the world, pound for pound.
